Lucas Hnath’s Death Tax tells the story of elderly Maxine who lives in a nursing home. Seemingly lucid, Maxine believes her daughter is paying off the nurse to slowly kill her. Through a series of encounters, we discover there is more to the story. Hnath focuses on ordinary people grappling with money, death, truth, and their ultimate fear, abandonment.
