Top 10 Events of 2016

With 2016 officially in the rear view mirror, we decided to take a look at the top 10 most searched for events in Wichita Falls!! The information we used came from Downtown Development, MPEC and right here at Choose Wichita Falls.

10. Polar Express

Wichita Falls was in the Christmas spirit! The Polar Express, which took families on guided light tours, garnered enough interest to earn the #10 spot!

9. City Lights

This annual parade attracts thousands of people every year to Downtown Wichita Falls, and 2016 was no exception! Families lined the streets to catch a glimpse of Jolly Ol’ St. Nick and to make lasting Christmas memories!

8. Art and Soul

In its second year, Art and Soul grew by leaps and bounds! The art festival featured dozens of area artists and artisans. 2016’s event also featured Texas blues singer Malford Milligan.

7. Falls Town Food Truck Challenge

This was the first year for the Falls Town Food Truck Challenge, hosted by the Downtown Lion’s Club, and it is safe to say it was a MAJOR success! In addition to live music and wrestling, dozens of food trucks competed for a $5,000 dollar prize. The inaugural grand champion was Crabb Shack out of Abilene!

6. St. Patrick’s Day Festival

A celebration of all things green, Downtown Development’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival always draws a big crowd. This year, the musical line-up included Ian Moore and the Lossy Coils, Dirty River Boys, Bigloo, Shannon Folk and Celtic Aire.

5. Texas Ranch Roundup

Ten historic ranches reunited for the annual ranch rodeo, and crowds went wild! In addition to all the real ranch fun, the 2016 Roundup also featured the return of the Budweiser Clydesdales after a 5-year hiatus. The annual event is a fundraiser for North Texas Rehab Center.

4. Cajun Fest

Downtown Development really let the good times roll in 2016, with all 4 of its major events making this top list. The most searched event for DWFD in 2016 was Cajun Fest. And it’s no wonder, there’s not much better (at least, for this Southeast Texas girl) than zydeco and mudbugs.

3. Texas-Oklahoma Fair

2016 marked 22 years since the Founder Lions Club reestablished The Texas-Oklahoma Fair in Wichita Falls. On top of bringing Wichita Falls fair food, midway games, and rides, the fair is also designed to highlight area 4-H and FFA participants AND supports 21 local charities.

2. Hotter’N Hell 100

After more than 30 years, the Hotter’N Hell Hundred is still the largest single day 100-mile bicycle ride in the nation – and one of the largest in the world. 2016 Hotter’N Hell Hundred saw almost 12,000 registrants for the weekend events. This event was a close second to our number one event for 2016.

1. Fourth in the Falls

The City’s 2016 Fourth of July celebration slides into the top spot. Thousands of people attend the event this year with music from Wayward Blue, No Limits and Brandon Rhyder. This patriotic evening also featured plenty of activities for the kids including bounce houses and rides on the Maskat Shrine train. Needless to say, the fireworks this year were absolutely amazing!
