Exploring River Bend Nature Center in Wichita Falls

Even in the dead of winter, River Bend Nature Center is teeming with life. Home to Rocko the roadrunner, prairie dogs, butterflies and birds — the facility lets your explore plants and animals native to our area! We took time to explore the conservatory this month.

COMING SOON: River Bend is offering two Spring Break break camps coming up March 14-18th: Wild Art Camp and Build It Camp. The non-profit will also offer several camps coming up this summer for kiddos and they fill up fast, so register soon. 

 

You can also check out Science Saturdays, Nature Tots Storytime, or make plans to see the Dallas Zoo when they come visit the center!

FAST FACTS:

  • The facility is located on 20 acres, 17 of which are bottomland forest.

  • The private non-profit is open 7 days a week.

  • You can get married at RBNC.

  • In 1991, Members of the Junior League of Wichita Falls worked with the city to develop plans for RBNC, the first environmental education and recreation center in the region.

  • Last year 15,000 students from 32 schools in 13 counties participated in educational programs at RBNC, including S.T.E.M., Trail Tours, Creature Feature, Water Conservation, Sustainable Resources and RBNC Camps.

  • Visitation has doubled since 2009.

  • Rated #1 on Trip Advisor, RBNC has more than 35,000 visitors a year, and 40% were from out-of-town.

  • RBNC supports and hosts community nonprofits, fundraisers, meetings, and special events.
